Today is Monday, March 23rd. Do you know what special national day it is? I’ll give you a hint...it honors our four-legged friends that like to play fetch. If you said “it’s National Puppy Day”, I would say that you are correct! It is a very special day indeed. Puppies are so full of love and excitement that is contagious! This does not mean that they do not come with their challenges though.
As many of you know, I currently have a ‘Leader Dog of the Blind’ puppy named Luna. She is so smart, beautiful and challenging too. Having a puppy is such a blessing. They know how to make you smile and laugh. Chasing their tails and falling asleep in the oddest position. They fill you with joy and have you saying “aww, that’s so cute”, or “you’re so cute” multiple times a day! Puppies have a way of making the rest of the world disappear, if only for a moment. They look at you with nothing but love and affection. However, raising a puppy isn’t easy by any means.
Puppies are like children, they have to be watched at all times or they will get into trouble. They may chew up some shoes or cords. They may also just decide to leave you a ‘surprise present’ by going to the bathroom inside the house. Puppies also are not born knowing commands. So, you have to teach them how to sit and lay down. They can also jump up when they get excited or when they meet new people. However, you do not want dogs jumping up on people as it can cause injury. Teaching the puppy how to stay calm and patient by waiting for the person to pet them is important also.
You want to be sure to show lots of love and attention to a puppy but also know when to say “no” and put on your serious face. Again, like with a child you want to make sure the puppy learns that certain things are acceptable and others that are not. Puppies rely on their owners or caregivers to not only love them but to teach them. They want to be “good” and fill everyone's’ lives with happiness. They will not do well or be happy themselves if they do not have any sort of structure or discipline. Especially, the working dog breeds like the labs, Dobermans, Huskies, Shepards, etc.
Puppies love to sleep by passing out after a big play session too! Just like us they need their rest to recuperate and be ready for the next task or play date on their agenda. They are not afraid to just pass out wherever their bodies need it.
So, in all their cuteness, devotion, love, playfulness and learning attitudes puppies are truly a gift to us! We should be sure to cherish them and treat them the way they deserve to be treated. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a purebred, stray or a rescue! They all deserve our love and dedication. Puppies will not give up on us just as we should not give up on them. If you have a puppy make sure to give them some extra pets and a treat today to celebrate their awesome National Puppy Day! They deserve this special day even when we sometimes don’t deserve them!
We should all try to live our lives more like a puppy. We should be filled with love, always be learning something new, work hard, be a loyal friend and don’t be afraid to rest/sleep when you need to! Everyone deserves to be loved and adored as do puppies! Happy National Puppy Day! Go out there and show some love and excitement! Show some love to yourself by booking your boudoir photoshoot! You won’t regret it! ;)
