Voting is Essential

Updated: Oct 20, 2020

It’s crazy that in today’s society a lot of people don’t realize how lucky we are that we have the right to vote. Voting is something that is taken for granted, unfortunately. Maybe it’s because we don’t realize it wasn’t that long ago when not everybody had the right to vote, or maybe it’s because a lot of people can’t have a civil political discussion so it makes others not want to be involved in the process? I don’t think there’s only one answer as to why our right to vote is taken for granted but it is definitely something we should be aware of. We should make sure to use our rights and be at the polls on November 3rd!

When you think about voting, what comes to your mind? Do you think about the political parties, candidates or taking off of work to go vote? When I think about voting I think about how much our country has changed over the last 5, 10, even 20 years. Our country and the world are always changing. Changes come in many different forms, from natural disasters, diseases, new legislation, even becoming more aware of the different types, or genders of people. Changes are inevitable and we have to do our best to make sure that our changes lead us down a better and more knowledgeable path!

There is no right or wrong when it comes to voting. Everybody has a right to vote and should use their ballot as their voice. Don’t makeup excuses or think that your vote won’t matter, every vote counts! Sometimes you may feel like you don’t agree with either of the candidates and that’s okay too. There are more than just two candidates, and you may have more in common with someone from a smaller party. Do your research on all the candidates and where they stand on important issues, then make your decision.

This year I’m sure we’ve all heard about the mail in ballots/voting. There are literally no excuses to not vote this year. If you are uncomfortable with going to the polls due to the virus or people then select to vote absentee/mail in. You can even drop them off at your local clerk's office (this can be found at mich.gov/vote). No matter how you decide to cast your vote, it is important to take the time to submit your voice.

Let’s be sure to use our voices and cast our votes on November 3rd. We are so fortunate to have the right to vote and we shouldn’t waste it. Every ballot matters and every voice needs to be heard. I know I will be voting and I hope you all join me. Let’s do our due diligence and try our best to lead our country into a better and more inclusive tomorrow!
